Fake USDT investment platforms: how to spot them before you invest
In short
- The scheme runs on early payouts: small amounts are paid out so you invest more and bring friends.
- The balance on the site is just a number in their database. The money left the moment you sent it.
- A demand to pay in order to withdraw is the end of the scheme, not a technical problem.
What it looks like
- “USDT arbitrage between exchanges” returning 2–5% a day.
- A “mining pool” or “liquidity” you must “connect” your wallet to for interest.
- An “AI trading bot” or “copy trading” behind an experienced “mentor”.
- An acquaintance from social media or a dating site that turns into “let me show you how I earn”.
The platform looks solid: charts, a dashboard, chat support, a “licence” as a picture.
How the scheme works
- You send a small amount. The balance in the dashboard grows every day.
- The first withdrawal goes through: trust is earned.
- You are persuaded to invest more — a “VIP level”, a “private pool”, a “deposit bonus”.
- A large withdrawal is “blocked”: a “tax”, “insurance”, “AML check fee” or “verification” is needed. After paying, a new demand appears.
The “connect your wallet” variant is more dangerous: instead of a transfer you are asked to sign an approval, and money is taken straight from your address, see approvals and revoking them.
How to check before investing
- Returns. Nobody gives a steady 1–5% a day. That is a sign of a scheme.
- The deposit address. Check it in GuardPay /check: a fresh address collecting money from many people and quickly forwarding it, or links to known schemes, is a reason to stop.
- Who brought you in. A stranger from social media who “happens” to earn and offers to show you is the classic start.
- A withdrawal fee. On TRON the fee is deducted from your address when you sign; it is never sent to a separate address, see energy and fees.
If you have already invested
- Do not pay to “unlock withdrawal”: there is no money on the platform.
- Keep the deposit addresses, hashes, chat and screenshots of the dashboard.
- Revoke approvals if you signed anything when “connecting your wallet”.
- GuardPay /stolen shows where your transfers went and which of them reached exchanges. You can start for free.
- After that, “recovery services” will find you — the second wave of the same scheme, see fake recovery services.
Trace where the money went
A TRON trace: the path of the funds from your wallet, the exchanges they reached, and ready letters for the exchange and the police. You can start for free.

Why could I withdraw my first money?
Early payouts are part of the scheme: they come from other investors’ money and exist to make you trust it and invest more.
The platform demands a tax to withdraw. Should I pay?
No. Taxes are not paid to a platform to release a withdrawal, and the TRON network never needs transfers to a separate address. After paying, a new demand will appear.
